Arial ] B@0(Cris Cofitis was born and raised in Athens in 1962 where he still resides. In 1997, willing to project his artistic experience on the creation of an art-puzzle which would have sculpture as core and mechanics and illumination as means so that his final work to be functional, he started preparing his sculptured metal constructions, inspired by the movements of celestial bodies and using metal, wood, glass and plexiglas as raw materials. His collection, bearing the title "Big Bang", was hosted for a month (10 January 2001 to 10 February 2001) by the "ELEMENTS" gallery of contemporary art in Athens. This was his first individual exhibition and was warmly welcomed by collectors and the Greek media (TV, radio, daily press, magazines) and was also presented by CNNs World Report on February 14th and 17th 2001. The artist strongly wishes to bring his work soon in New York, as he is interested to the challenge of presenting his sculptures at the world metropolis of contemporary art. He studied engineering technology from 1978-1981. Devoted to "artistic" creations as far as he can remember, he initially turned to designing motorcycles, thus combining his two passions: art and motors. His own motorcycle, an elegant show-chopper, full of sculptured metallic pieces, used and photographed for various fashion editorials and shows is an amazing example of such works. Having the "soul of an artist" however, in the 90s he decided, to expand his creative skills. Therefore, he studied fashion design from 1990- 1993 ("Veloudakis" private institute for fashion design). During his studies he worked for scientific magazines, drawing monuments, jewels and costumes. He also designed clothes for men, women and children for the Greek fashion industry and participated in many Greek contests (like Intershow, winning the first prize and TEXTILIA Show on knitwear, leatherwear, accessories and tissue patterns, where he was awarded for designing the best summer cloth). In 1993, he won the first award for a Greek fashion designer and the fourth award worldwide, during the "International Competition for Young Designers" under the auspices of UNESCO in Paris, for his leather creation of a woman-panther designed and created exclusively by him. He graduated with distinction ("excellent") from the fashion designers school. In several occasions (1989 to 1996) Christos created series of jewel and accessories designs on behalf of renowned Greek fashion houses (M.Tselios/Billy Bo, Yiannis Tseklenis), prepared his own private ZIPPO lighters collection bearing silver and copper micro-sculptures and co-operated with the Greek art-photographer C.Coutayar, preparing special constructions for fashion photos for the Italian magazine Mondo di Uomo and L'Uomo Vogue. The artist was also involved in creating the logo of a German furniture importing company and prepared designs for traditional furniture made from iron (1997-1999).
